Ans: Jerome's real intention when he offered to pack was that he would supervise while Jeorge and Harris do the packing. He would guide them when they made some mistakes.

Q.5. What did Harris say after the bag was shut and strapped? Why do you think he waited till then to ask?
Ans: After the bag was shut and strapped, Harris asked him whether he had packed his boots. He waited for the last moment to ask it because he wanted to put Jerome into confusion and enjoy the mess Jerome was in.

Q.11. What does Jesome say was Montmorency ambition in life? What do you think of Montmorency and why ?
Ans: Jerome says Montmorency's ambition in life was to get in the way and be sworn at. Montmorency was a mischievous little dog who loved creating trouble for others. I think that Montmorency was a perfect nuisance because whenever he found people busy with their work, he might feel bored and wanted to get involved. He meant not troubled intentionally. But when people shouted at him or threw things at his head, he got discouraged and then went away to sit silently, which the narrator called the fulfillment of his conceit.

III Discuss in groups and answer the following questions in two or three paragraphs (100 - 150 words).

Q.1. Of the three, Jerome, George and Harris, who do you think is the best or worst packer? Support your answer with details from the text.
Ans: In my opinion, the narrator Jerome is the best packer. George and Harris are not only lazy but worst packer- Jerome makes a few minor mistakes while packing. This is the reason why he liked to pack and repack many times. But ultimately, he finished packing in a better way.
Hence, out of the three, Jerome is the best packer. He is a person who wants every task to be completed with perfection. Although he is bossy at times yet his patients and helpful nature impresses the reader. We should also try to imbibe his sense of perfection and responsibility.

Q.2. How did Montmorency ‘contribute’ to the packing?
Ans: The packing escapade was already a messy job and Montmorency's contribution to it made it even more tiresome. He did his level best to be a perfect nuisance.
He came and sat down on things, just when they were wanted to be packed. He put his legged into the Jam and worried the teaspoons. He also pretended that the lemons were rats. So he got into the hamper and killed three off them before Harris could land him with the frying pan.

Extra Questions

Q.1. The writer Jerome told his two friends that they had better leave the whole matter of packing entirely to him, because he had a better sense on it.- > What was the actual sense of the writer behind this line?
Ans: The writer did not mean by saying that he would pack; his friends would sit and relax. He had meant that he would boss upon them and superintend them when they would do all the work. He would teach them and scroll them too for not knowing the work well. In shot he wanted to finish all the packing by them.

Q.2. How did the man (roommate of the writer) use to make him mad?
Ans: The writer lived with a man, who always made him irritated by lying on the sofa and watching him doing all the work alone. Again the men used to make him mad by saying that he enjoyed watching him go around, doing all the work.

Q.3. How does a toothbrush always make a mess in writer’s life while travelling?
Ans: Jerome told that his toothbrush was the only thing which always haunted him while travelling and made his life a misery. He always dreamt that he hadn’t packed it and woke up with cold perspiration and started searching for it. In the morning packed it before using it and unpacked it again. As it was the last thing that came out of the bag and he had repacked the bag, he forgot packing it again. Then he had to reach to his room to get it and finally wrapped it in his handkerchief and carried it to the railway station in his hand.
