Ans: (i) humid shadows
- "humid shadows" refers to the dark clouds that produce rain.
(ii) starry spheres
- "starry spheres" refers to the night sky abounding in stars.
(iii) what a bliss - "what a bliss"
refers to the happiness of the poet.When it rains the poet gets in to his cottage
and enjoys the patter of rain upon the roof.
(iv) a thousand dreamy fancies in to busy be start
– This refers to the various imaginary thoughts and fantasies that are aroused in
the poet's mind.
(v) a thousand recollections weave their air threads into woof – This phrase means that numerous memories intermingle to form a beautiful picture that the poet recollects.

does the poet like to do when it rains?
Ans: When it rains the poet feels delighted to lie with his head pressed against the pillow of his cottage chamber bed and listen to the patter of the soft rain.

is the single major memory that comes to the poet?Who are the "darling dreamers"
he refers to?
Ans: The single major memory that comes to the poet is that of his mother and her fond look.The "darling dreamers" are the poet and his siblings in their childhood when they were lovingly put to sleep by their mother.

the poet now a child?Is his mother still alive?
Ans: No,the poet is not a child now.He is a grown up man.He remembers his mother when he is inside his cosy cottage enjoying the patter of rain on the roof.

Ans: Yes,is my mother used to tuck me in when I was a young child.

you like rain?What do you do when it rains steadily or heavily as described in the
poem?
Ans: Yes,I like the rain when it rains steadly I get into my house and join the weather with my family.

every body have a cosy bed to lie in when it rains?Likeook around you and describe
how different kinds of people or animals spend time seek shelter etc. during rain.
Ans: No,everybody does not have a cosy bed to lie
in when it rains.Not everybody gets to enjoy the comfort of cosy homes during rain.There
are human beings and animals seeking shelter under trees and the tin roofs of the
small roadside tea stalls.The people passing by shoo away these animals and tried
to shrink themselves under the limited space of these shops.The poor animals are
left drench and shivering on the roads.The shopkeepers of such stalls are delightedted
as the people waiting for the rain to subside often end up buying tea and snacks.

1. Why does the poet call the sound of the rain as ‘refrain’?
Ans: In the poem “Rain on the Roof”, poet Coates Kinney feels and describes the soothing sound of raindrops falling on a rooftop. As the rain continues, the poet’s thoughts turn to memories of his childhood and his mother, who is no longer alive. He imagines that she is watching over him and his young cousins, taking care of them as she did when he was a child. The sound of the rain brings the poet comfort and reminds him of his mother’s love and care.

Ans: I love rain and enjoy taking a quick shower in it. However, if it rains heavily, I prefer to stay indoors and admire the natural beauty through windows. Rain creates a delightful ambiance, and I love snuggling up in bed to watch TV. I also relish a hot cup of tea or coffee alongside some hot snacks to enhance my joy. Rain creates an earthy-aroma by drenching dry soil, smelling it is my most favourite part of activity during shower.
4. What is the message of the poem “Rain on the Roof”?
Ans: The poem is a beautiful account of melancholy, loss and love. It rekindles the spirit of love and affection of mothers. It shows how nourishment and nurturing stay with you for a lifetime. The poem is a perfect representation of how rainfall can mean different things to different people. For Coates Kinney, the rain and the about to burst clouds bring back the fondest memories of his mother, who is no longer with him.
3. Describe poets feeling after hearing of the raindrops falling on the roof to pay his house?
Ans: The poet has expressed his feeling of hearing raindrops falling on the roof top in the second stanza .He said whenever he heard the rain falling on the roof top , the sound straight away touched his heart. Again he added that the sound of the raindrops created many new different dreams in his mind .After hearing that he started recollecting many memories of the past.
